<p class=MsoNormal>This is the first full-length film dealing extensively with

Tibetan medicine. It is an inside look at the unique philosophy and dramatic

benefits of Tibetan healing. In the cinema verite tradition, the audience journeys

with Tibetan practitioners as they treat patients, make house calls and

share secrets of ancient herbal remedies, traveling through Dharamsala in

northern India, Ulaan Ude, and in the northern region of Mongolia.

Treatments include the use of herbs, roots and minerals. The film also

documents research done in Europe to test the healing properties and produce

medicines. </p>

<p class=MsoNormal>This film is shown worldwide. The TIBETcenter had shown this film 6-7 times during the last four years in the Chicago area.</p>

in an earthly form. They are rather objects of meditation and symbolize

specific qualities, each embodying a particular insight necessary for

<h3>About sand mandala</h3>

<p class=MsoNormal>Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning &quot;circle&quot;.

Mandalas are symbols of the universe and its energy. Tibetan monks create these

archetypal templates to remind us of the cycle of life and death. The purpose,

meanings, and techniques involved in the spiritual art of sand mandala painting

were taught by the Buddha (&quot; The Awakened One&quot;) himself in India in

the sixth century BCE and later brought to Tibet. The tradition of sand mandala

painting is believed to have been preserved over the past 2500 years in an

unbroken transmission from master to disciple down to the present day.</p>

As a fund raiser for the TIBETcenter, Miriam E. Cameron, Ph.D., RN, Author of the national bestseller "Hello, I'm God, and I'm Here to Help You" will give lecture and sign her recent book "Karma & Happiness: A Tibetan Odyssey in Ethics, Spirituality, and Healing" at BORDERS, University Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin.

<P>January 11 is "BORDERS Benefit Day" for the TIBETcenter.  Please obtain certificates from Joe Sensenbrenner (608-251-3100) or Michael Hernke (608-257-5107) for purchasing books and music from BORDERS at the Madison location and help the TIBETcenter earn a percentage, with no extra cost to you.

<P>"Western culture and healthcare often view ethics, spirituality, and healing as separate entities. But in Tibetan Buddhism, the three are inextricably linked: ethical behavior leads to spiritual growth, and our spiritual strength can heal us from the emotional and physical wounds we incur in life.  In this book, a nurse ethicist uses the story of her journey to Tibet as a

framework for showing how we can apply this karmic principle in our daily lives. She uses modern Tibet's relationship with China as a vehicle for examining both societal and personal problems that confront us on a daily basis. Karma and Happiness provides a model for integrating

diverse wisdom traditions into our personal spirituality-allowing us to find

meaning in life, to live ethically, and to transform life's challenges into healing experiences."

<P>Miriam is well known to most of the many Tibetans in Minneapolis as MIM. She is a long time supporter of Tibet. She is giving 20% of her royalties to the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dharamsala, India.

<P>(Excerpt from Foreword By H. H. the Dalai Lama:) This Book, Karma and Happiness, is an account of Miriam E. Cameron's dialogue with Tibetans and Tibetan culture. Already concerned with issues of health and ethics, she discusses here what she learned from her visit to Tibet and her growing acquaintance with Tibetans. She describes how these experiences challenged her sense of values, giving her a new perspective on ethics and spirituality in the context of healing. I welcome this kind of openhearted approach to different ideas and practices. I feel it is along such lines that Tibetans and the values we espouse can make a contribution to creating a happier, more peaceful world. I am sure that readers who are interested in the relations between ethical values and the health of individuals and society will find much here to inspire them.

<P>Windhorse (97 min) by Paul Wagner will be shown free by Evanston Reeltime, Evanston Public Library and Northwestern University, Evanston. A cultural presentation and discussion with Tsering Tashi Phuri from the TIBETcenter will follow the screening.

<P>Academy Award-winning filmmaker Paul Wagner's courageous exploration of the political and cultural oppression of Tibetan people by the Chinese regime has stirred major controversy since its first US screening in the spring of 1998.  Based on true events, WINDHORSE focuses on the lives of two siblings and their cousin who as young children witnessed their Tibetan grandfather brutally murdered over his resistance of Chinese aggression. Eighteen years later, the memory of losing their grandfather has affected each of the kids very differently.  On the verge of pop-stardom, Dolkar has assimilated herself comfortably into Chinese culture while her disgusted brother Dorjee's hatred of the Chinese has turned him into an embittered vagrant.  Their cousin Pema has since retreated to the solace of life as a Buddhist nun, until, like her grandfather before her, she too risks her life by defying Chinese rule in Tibet.  When Dolkar and Dorjee are called to help Pema, the brutal realities of Chinese occupation in Tibet strike the family once again -- this time they must join forces to do everything in their power to help stop it. About WINDHORSE, Peter Stack of San Francisco Chronicle says, "An amazing movie! A searching political drama that rips the veils off Western idealism about Tibet. A look at Tibet's spiritual core in the form of a punch in the stomach."
