Founded in Japan in 1938, by Rev. Nikkyo Niwano and Myoko Naganuma. Membership has grown to over six million in the last 50 years, supporting 240 churches in Japan, Brazil, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the U.S. (Los Angeles, Hawaii, New York, San Francisco). Rev. Niwano was succeeded by his son, Nichiko Niwano, as president of RKK, in 1991.
Rissho Kosei-Kai was founded to reveal the Lotus Sutra's pure doctrine in our contemporary world. Through daily sutra recitation, we the members of RKK hope to manifest the Buddha's wisdom into our daily lives; to realize freedom from suffering and bring enlightenment of our ancestors.
HOZA (Circle of Compassion): The hoza is a unique form of group counseling, which takes place after the Sunday prayer service. During the hoza session, we seek to apply the Buddha's teachings, as expounded by the Lotus Sutra, in our every day lives, to bring peace to ourselves and to the world around us.
In his mission to bring Lotus Sutra's message of peace to the world, our founder, Rev. Nikkyo Niwano has been a very active supporter of interreligious cooperation. Rev. Niwano has served as honorary president of the World Conference on Religion and Peace (WCRP), a non-governmental organization of the United Nations. Through his work with the United Nations, Rev. Niwano enjoys a close relationship with Pope John Paul II, and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, along with other great world leaders. Rev. Niwano has received an honorary Doctorate from The Meadville Lombard Theological School of the University of Chicago.
We welcome you to contact us or feel free to join us at our Sunday morning service at 10:00 a.m.
