The Prairie Sangha practices Vipassana or Mindfulness meditation (as written about by Jack Kornfield, Sylvia Boorstein, and Joseph Goldstein). It is an ancient practice which facilitates a balanced awareness grounded in the present moment. It includes sitting and walking meditation, with an emphasis on bringing mindfulness into our daily lives. We work closely with the Insight Meditation Center in Barre, MA and the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, CA. Practice follows the Thai forest tradition of Ajahn Chaa and Ajahn Buddhassa as well as the Burmese tradition of Mahasi Saydaw.

We meet each Monday at 7:15 p.m. for two hours. Periodically, we sponsor retreats. This consists of sitting meditation, walking meditation, and, every other week, a Dharma talk. We meet monthly for a Sangha Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. We also have one-day silent retreats with Sangha members sharing lunch. We have a yearly: four- day Spring Retreat.  Led by an experienced Vipassana teacher, this retreat offers an opportunity for intensive practice. Instruction for beginners and help with basic Dharma is available within the Sangha.
