- This temple serves the Cambodian, Thai, Laotian, and Vietnamese people of the Chicago area--but everyone is welcome. This organization was established in April 1986, and cooperates with other religious organizations and the refugee organizations in the Chicago area. The center has a program especially designed for Asians new to the Chicago area. Called the American Asian Village Project, the program is making a "hometown" of Chicago for refugees. The Kampuchean Buddhist Society is helping to develop affordable housing, elderly day care, education, job training and counseling. The Wat Khmer Metta Temple also, of course, performs wedding and funeral services.
