Rigpa Chicago Sangha is the Midwest center of Rigpa International, a collection of meditation centers and study groups under the spiritual directorship of two Tibetan Masters, Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book fo Living and Dying, and Dzogchen Rinpoche, the head of Dzogchen Monastery. Since 1990, the Chicago sangha has provided study groups, weekend retreats, weekly meditation, and an introductory 8-week course presenting themes from the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. Since 1996, Sogyal Rinpoche has developed a more comprehensive curriculum known as Streams. These are year-long courses which introduce Buddhist study and practice from the point of view of the three yenas: The Basic Yana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. All Streams and courses are led by older students of Sogyal Rinpoche who have been certified as instructors. During the summer months, weekly meditation sessions are open to all on Tuesday nights.
