- Founded in late 1986 by a group of dedicated Thai and American Buddhists, this is perhaps one of the fastest-growing Buddhist organizations in the U.S. Though the BMC is rooted in the Theravada tradition, its vision is ecumenical, and the emphasis is on meditation.
Activities of the day at the BMC begin early. Morning meditation is at 6 a.m., with chanting and sitting meditation. Lunch offering is around 11 a.m. Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. there is an applied group meditation, group meditation, and Dharma classes for interested members of the public.
- The BMC also runs a popular Dharma-gift program, a fine library, and an excellent Sunday School. Dharma books and magazines are published and distributed free of charge. The book section presently has interesting titles for sale as well and is being developed into a full-scale bookstore. Other activities include religious services every Sunday and on Buddhist holy days. Intensive meditation retreats and religious instruction are arranged by appointment.
The BMC welcomes study groups from colleges and universities and is often invited to send representatives to speak at academic institutions.
- You are invited to visit the BMC at your convenience. You may also have your name and address included on the mailing list to receive free newsletters. The BMC is proud to be part of the Buddhist Council of the Midwest.
