What is Korean Buddhism? (extensive)

1. Outside the Compound

At the entrance to most temples, there is an information board which is in English at all the larger temples. It recounts the history of the temple and also alerts the visitor to associated hermitages that are beyond the main temple and, sometimes, hiking trails around that particular mountain area. It also points out special temple treasures: statues, monuments, halls.

Apart from the information board, usually there are a number of free-standing, stone objects on the way to the first gate. These are monuments, including stele, pudo and pagodas.
