(c) Shilla
It is not very clear when Shilla women started to accept Buddhism. It is
simply guessed that it must have been some time after the official
recognition of Buddhism in Shilla in 527. There were many women supporters
of the temples as well as many bhikkunis. Some women became temple
servants, others devoted themselves as patrons. With the great devotion and
variety of activities which women gave themselves to in the temples, their
contribution was considerable.
